Year 2 Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics at the University of Birmingham. Operative dentistry foundations: clinical skills suite induction, reasons for restoring teeth, operative positioning, minimally invasive and conventional approaches to occlusal caries, management of proximal lesions, anterior tooth tissue loss, toothache 1 and 2, deep carious lesions, posterior composites, porcelain veneers, and the planning, provision, temporisation and impression-taking for indirect restorations.

Year 2 Oral Surgery at the University of Birmingham. Foundations: local anaesthetic anatomy and neurophysiology, pharmacology, equipment and techniques, precautions and emergencies. Plus introduction to oral surgery, principles of tooth extraction and minor oral surgery, biomaterials, endocarditis/anticoagulants/MRONJ considerations, acute oro-facial infections, and analgesics and antibiotics.

Year 2 Periodontology at the University of Birmingham. Foundations of clinical periodontology: pre-clinical/clinical interface, recognition of inflammatory periodontal disease, periodontal indices and scoring, oral hygiene and plaque control, supragingival biofilm management (PMPR), aetiology and pathogenesis of plaque-associated diseases, the 2018 classification, and the S3 treatment guidelines.

Year 2 Prosthetic Dentistry at the University of Birmingham School of Dentistry. Treatment options for the partially and completely edentulous patient: removable partial dentures (visit one through delivery), complete-complete dentures, immediate dentures, repairs, relining and rebasing, denture aesthetics and review.

Year 3 Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics at the University of Birmingham. Endodontics 1-5 (indications, root canal anatomy and access, instrumentation, inter-appointment dressing, obturation, restoration of endodontically treated teeth, and complications), indirect restoration fabrication (models, dies, metalwork and ceramics), complex direct restorations, occlusion (mandibular movements, conformative and reorganised approaches) and minimally invasive management of missing teeth.

Year 2 BDS Human Diseases module. Covers infection and microbiology, general pathology, cardiopulmonary / gastrointestinal / neurological / endocrine pathology, applied pharmacology, surgical principles and peri-operative care, internal medicine for dentists, and therapeutics.

Year 3 Oral Surgery at the University of Birmingham. Complications of tooth extraction (general, bleeding, nerve injuries, wound healing), minimally invasive tooth extraction, wisdom teeth, pre-operative assessment and consent, the maxillary sinus, cysts of the jaws, salivary gland disease, diagnosis of neck swellings, temporomandibular disorders, facial fractures and orthognathic surgery.
