1. Introduction and Agreement
1.1 Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using the Meedu platform (the "Platform"), you agree to comply with and be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"), our Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree to all these Terms, you must not use the Platform. Your use constitutes acceptance of these Terms and creates a legally binding agreement between you and Meedu LTD.
1.2 Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at our sole discretion. Material changes will be notified through the Platform, email, or other reasonable means at least 30 days before taking effect. Your continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with modifications, you must discontinue use of the Platform.

Beta Release Notice
1.4 Meedu is currently being made available as a Beta Release. This means the platform is still undergoing final testing, refinement, and stabilisation. Functionality may change, be improved, or be removed as the Beta progresses.
1.5 By using Meedu during the Beta Release, you acknowledge and agree that:
- (a) the platform may contain bugs, errors, interruptions, or performance issues
- (b) some features may not operate as intended
- (c) data may not always sync, save, or display correctly
- (d) analytics data and usage statistics may be inaccurate, incomplete, altered, or lost while improvements are being made
- (e) service availability is not guaranteed
- (f) updates may be applied without notice
1.6 The Beta Release is provided “as is”, and Meedu does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or fully functional performance during this period.
1.7 During the Beta Release, Meedu may collect feedback, usage data, and error data in order to diagnose issues and improve platform stability. This may include analytics data, technical logs, and device/browser information, which may occasionally be incomplete or affected by platform changes during this phase.
1.8 You agree not to rely on the Beta Release for exam-critical, clinical, or professional decision-making. The platform is intended for general educational use only.
1.9 Meedu may modify, suspend, or limit access to any Beta functionality at any time during the Beta period.
1.10 The Beta period will continue until Meedu issues a written notice confirming the end of the Beta Release and full Go Live.
2. Eligibility and Age Requirements
2.1 General Eligibility
To use our Platform, you must:
- Be at least 13 years old
- Have legal capacity to enter into these Terms
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
2.2 Minors and Parental Consent
For users aged 13-17:
- Optional parental notification and review of these Terms (via provided email at signup).
- The parent/guardian is responsible for the minor's use of the Platform.
- Parents/guardians may request account termination or data deletion at any time.
- Enhanced privacy protections apply, as outlined in our Privacy Policy.
For users under 13:
- Direct use is prohibited; we do not permit accounts or collect data from children under 13.
- Any such data discovered will be deleted immediately.
- If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, contact us at contact@meedu.co.uk.
2.3 Educational Institution Accounts
Schools and educational institutions creating accounts represent that they have authority to bind their institution and comply with applicable educational privacy laws including FERPA, COPPA, and local data protection regulations.
3. Platform Usage and Licensing
3.1 Limited Licence
Subject to compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Platform for legitimate educational purposes.
Permitted Uses:
- Personal educational use
- Authorised institutional educational use
- Fair use of copyrighted materials for educational purposes
- Creating and sharing original educational content
Prohibited Uses:
- Commercial redistribution without permission
- Reverse engineering or creating derivative works
- Automated access without written consent
- Violating intellectual property rights
- Any unlawful activities
3.2 UK Fair Dealing
We recognise the fair dealing provisions under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Users may incorporate limited portions of copyrighted materials on the Platform where such use qualifies as fair dealing for the purposes of:
- Research for a non-commercial purpose (s.29 CDPA 1988)
- Criticism, review, or quotation (s.30 CDPA 1988)
- Illustration for instruction for a non-commercial purpose (s.32 CDPA 1988)
Fair Dealing Guidelines:
- Use only the portion necessary for the qualifying purpose
- Provide sufficient acknowledgement of the source where reasonably practicable
- Consider the impact on the rights holder
- Comply with institutional policies and applicable law
Note: Fair dealing under UK law is narrower than the "fair use" doctrine under US copyright law. If you are unsure whether your intended use qualifies, seek advice before uploading content.
4. Account Management
4.1 Account Creation
Required Information:
- Valid email address
- Age verification (via birthdate entry; under 13 blocked)
- For users aged 13-17: Optional parental/guardian contact information for notification
- For institutions: authorised representative details
Account Security:
- You are responsible for maintaining account confidentiality
- Use strong, unique passwords
- Immediately report suspected unauthorised access
4.2 Account Types
- Individual Accounts: For personal educational use
- Student Accounts: For users aged 13+; enhanced privacy protections with optional parental notification (see Privacy Policy Section 11).
- Educator Accounts: Additional content creation and classroom management features
- Institutional Accounts: Multi-user management with administrative controls
4.3 Account Termination
Voluntary Termination: You may delete your account anytime through account settings or by contacting support.
Involuntary Termination: We may suspend or terminate accounts for:
- Terms violations
- Illegal activities
- Security threats
- Extended inactivity (with 30-day notice)
Effect of Termination:
- Immediate loss of Platform access
- Data retention as outlined in Privacy Policy
- Preservation of certain legal obligations
5. Data Protection and Privacy
5.1 GDPR Compliance
For users in the EU/UK, we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK Data Protection Act 2018.
Your Rights:
- Access: Request copies of your personal data
- Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data
- Erasure: Request deletion of personal data
- Portability: Receive data in machine-readable format
- Restriction: Limit processing of your data
- Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw Consent: Revoke consent for data processing

5.2 COPPA Compliance
In the unlikely event we collect data from a child under 13 (which is prohibited):
- We collect only necessary information.
- No behavioural advertising to children.
- Verifiable parental consent would be required before any data collection.
- Parents may review, delete, or refuse further collection.
- Enhanced security measures apply, with immediate deletion upon discovery (see Privacy Policy).
5.3 FERPA Compliance
For educational records:
- We act as a school official with legitimate educational interest.
- Educational records are protected according to FERPA requirements.
- No disclosure without consent except as FERPA permits.
- Students may inspect and request correction of educational records.
- Institutions maintain primary responsibility for FERPA compliance.
5.4 Data Processing Lawful Basis
We process personal data based on:
- Contract performance: Account management and service delivery
- Legitimate interests: Platform improvement and security
- Consent: Marketing communications and optional features
- Legal obligations: Compliance with applicable laws
5.5 International Data Transfers
Data may be transferred outside your country of residence to countries with adequate data protection or under appropriate safeguards including:
- Standard Contractual Clauses
- Adequacy decisions
- Binding corporate rules
- Explicit consent where required
5.6 Performance and Analytics Cookies
During the Beta Release, we may use performance cookies to understand how users interact with the platform and to identify bugs, crashes, and areas for improvement.
When enabled, we may use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect:
- device type and browser information
- navigation and interaction data
- page performance
- app errors and latency
- anonymous usage patterns
Because the platform is in the Beta phase:
- analytics data may occasionally be incomplete or inaccurate
- some tracking events may not fire consistently
- analytics data may be altered, removed, or lost during ongoing updates
- usage statistics may vary as we adjust features and tracking systems
All analytics data is processed in accordance with GDPR and is anonymised where possible.
Users can opt out of analytics cookies through our cookie preferences banner.
5.7 Changes to Cookie Usage During Beta
As the Beta Release evolves, certain cookies (including performance, analytics, or feature-related cookies) may be added, removed, or modified. During this period:
- analytics and performance data may be affected by platform changes
- data may be incomplete or overwritten during updates
- tracking may be temporarily interrupted while improvements are applied
Material changes will be reflected in this policy.
5.8 AI-Powered Features
The Platform includes AI-powered features, including an educational chatbot and content generation tools. When you use these features, your queries and relevant course content are processed by third-party AI providers (currently OpenAI and Anthropic). These providers act as data processors on our behalf and process your data solely to generate responses. They do not use your data to train their models. For more details, see our Privacy Policy Section 2.8.
6. Payment Terms
6.1 Current Status
The Platform is currently free to use during our Beta Release. When paid features are introduced in the future, this section will be updated at least 30 days in advance. Payment processing will be handled by a third-party payment processor, and we will not store complete payment card details.
6.2 Future Paid Features
When paid features become available, the following terms will apply. These are provided for transparency and will be confirmed before any paid features launch:
- Prices displayed will include applicable taxes
- Billing will occur according to your subscription terms
- Monthly subscriptions: Cancel anytime, no refund for current period
- Annual subscriptions: Pro-rated refunds within 30 days
- Educational institution accounts: Separate refund terms in institutional agreements
- Statutory consumer rights under UK law will always be preserved
7. Intellectual Property
7.1 Platform Ownership
All Platform content, features, and technology are owned by Meedu LTD or our licensors and protected by intellectual property laws.
7.2 User Content Licence
By submitting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute your content solely for Platform operation and improvement. This licence is non-transferable and terminates when you delete content, subject to backup and legal retention requirements.
7.3 Educational Content Rights
- You retain ownership of original content
- Licence limited to educational platform use
- We respect educational fair use principles
- Content removal is available upon request
7.4 Copyright Infringement Reporting
We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content on the Platform infringes your copyright, please notify us at contact@meedu.co.uk with the subject line "Copyright Notice", providing:
- Identification of the copyrighted work
- Location of the allegedly infringing material on the Platform
- Your contact information
- A statement of good faith belief that the use is not authorised
- A statement of accuracy
- Your physical or electronic signature, or authorisation to act on the copyright owner's behalf
We will investigate all notices in accordance with the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002 and will remove or disable access to infringing content where appropriate.
7.5 Trademark Policy
Unauthorised use of our trademarks is prohibited. Third-party trademarks used with permission or under fair use principles.
8. User Conduct and Content Standards
8.1 Acceptable Use
Users must:
- Comply with all applicable laws
- Respect others' rights and dignity
- Use Platform for legitimate educational purposes
- Maintain academic integrity
- Report violations and security issues
8.2 Prohibited Conduct
Users must not:
- Engage in harassment, discrimination, or hate speech
- Share inappropriate content for educational environment
- Violate intellectual property rights
- Attempt unauthorised access or security breaches
- Distribute malware or harmful code
- Impersonate others
- Engage in academic dishonesty
8.3 Content Moderation
We reserve the right to review and moderate content to:
- Ensure compliance with community standards
- Protect minors from inappropriate content
- Maintain educational environment quality
- Respond to reported violations
8.4 Academic Integrity
Users must maintain academic honesty and integrity. Prohibited activities include:
- Plagiarism or unauthorised collaboration
- Sharing answers or test materials inappropriately
- Using Platform to facilitate academic dishonesty
- Circumventing educational assessment measures
9. Child Safety and Protection
9.1 Enhanced Protections for Minors
For users aged 13-17
- Enhanced privacy protections
- Restricted data collection
- No behavioural profiling for advertising
- Optional parental notification rights
- Safe reporting mechanisms (see Privacy Policy Section 11)
9.2 Child Safety Reporting
We cooperate with law enforcement regarding child safety issues.
9.3 Content Oversight
We are committed to maintaining age-appropriate content standards and provide tools for educators to manage and control access to course content within their institutions.
10. Accessibility and Inclusion
10.1 Accessibility Commitment
We strive to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and provide:
- Screen reader compatibility
- Keyboard navigation support
- Alternative text for images
- Captioning for video content where possible

11. Limitation of Liability and Disclaimers
11.1 Service Disclaimer
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11.2 Educational Disclaimer
Whilst we strive to provide quality educational content, we do not guarantee:
- accuracy or completeness of educational materials
- achievement of specific learning outcomes
- suitability for particular educational needs
- compliance with specific curriculum standards
11.3 Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim, not to exceed £100. We are not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
- Third-party actions or content
- Force majeure events
Beta Release – Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Meedu shall not be liable for any loss, damage, interruption, or data issues arising from:
- (a) use of the platform during the Beta Release
- (b) temporary unavailability
- (c) data errors, syncing issues, or data loss
- (d) analytics data being inaccurate, incomplete, altered, delayed, or removed
- (e) bugs, defects, or functional limitations
- (f) reliance on Beta features for exam, academic, clinical, or professional decisions
Your statutory rights are not affected.
11.4 Consumer Rights Preservation
Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable consumer protection laws.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Meedu LTD, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from claims arising from:
- Your use of the Platform
- Violation of these Terms
- Content you submit or share
- Violation of third-party rights
- Unauthorised account access due to your negligence
13. Dispute Resolution
13.1 Informal Resolution
Before formal proceedings, parties agree to attempt good faith resolution through direct communication for 30 days.
13.2 Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by English law. Disputes will be resolved in English courts, except where prohibited by consumer protection laws.
13.3 Alternative Dispute Resolution
For qualifying disputes, we offer mediation through recognised ADR providers before litigation.
14. Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures due to circumstances beyond reasonable control, including natural disasters, government actions, labour disputes, or infrastructure failures.
15. Miscellaneous Provisions
15.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, Privacy Policy, and Cookie Policy constitute the complete agreement between parties, superseding all prior agreements.
15.2 Severability
If any provision is deemed invalid or unenforceable, remaining provisions continue in full effect.
15.3 No Waiver
Failure to enforce any right does not waive future enforcement of that right.
15.4 Assignment
We may assign these Terms without restriction. You may not assign without our written consent.
15.5 Third-Party Beneficiaries
These Terms do not create third-party beneficiaries except as expressly stated.
15.6 Survival
Sections relating to intellectual property, liability limitations, indemnification, and dispute resolution survive termination.
15.7 Language
The English version of these Terms controls in case of conflicts with translations.
15.8 Updates and Notices
We provide notices through the Platform, email, or postal mail. You consent to electronic communications.
16. Educational Specific Terms
16.1 Institutional Agreements
Educational institutions may be subject to additional terms in separate agreements addressing:
- Volume licensing
- Administrative controls
- Student data management
- Compliance reporting
16.2 Classroom Management
Educators using the Platform in classroom settings must:
- Ensure appropriate supervision of minor students
- Comply with institutional policies
- Respect student privacy rights
- Report inappropriate content or behaviour
16.3 Student Rights
Students have the right to:
- Access their educational records
- Request corrections to inaccurate information
- Understand how their data is used
- Report concerns about Platform use
17. Emergency Procedures
17.1 Security Incidents
In case of security breaches affecting personal data:
- We will assess and contain the incident
- Notify affected users without undue delay (and where feasible, within 72 hours) if the breach is likely to result in a high risk to their rights (e.g., via email; see Privacy Policy Section 8.4)
- Report to supervisory authorities (e.g., ICO) within 72 hours if the breach is likely to result in a risk to individuals' rights and freedoms
- Provide support and remediation assistance
17.2 Service Disruptions
For significant service disruptions:
- We will communicate status through multiple channels
- Provide estimated resolution timeframes
- Offer alternative access methods where possible
- Consider service credits for extended outages affecting paid services

19. Content Contributors
19.1 Scope
This section applies to individuals who contribute study materials or assist Meedu in creating educational content through our "Request a Course" programme or any other content contribution arrangement ("Contributors"). Contributors are subject to a separate Content Contributor Agreement in addition to these Terms.
19.2 Relationship
Contributors are independent contractors and not employees, workers, agents, or partners of Meedu. Nothing in these Terms or in any Content Contributor Agreement creates an employment relationship, partnership, joint venture, or agency. Contributors are not entitled to any employment benefits or protections, and are solely responsible for their own tax obligations.
19.3 Content Created from Contributions
All MCQs, flashcards, study aids, and other educational content created by Meedu from Contributed Materials are the exclusive property of Meedu Ltd. Such content may incorporate ideas, concepts, and factual information from Contributed Materials, but is independently authored by Meedu's team and constitutes Meedu's original work.
19.4 Platform Users' Rights in Contributor-Created Content
Content derived from contributor materials is made available to Platform users under the same licence terms as all other Platform content (see Section 3.1 — Limited Licence). Platform users may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works from this content except as permitted under these Terms.
19.5 Use in Marketing and Social Media
Content created by Meedu from Contributed Materials, including MCQs and flashcards, may be used in promotional materials, social media posts, and video content (such as short-form educational videos published on platforms like Instagram and TikTok). Such content will not identify or attribute individual Contributors.
19.6 No Attribution
Contributors acknowledge and agree that Meedu is not required to attribute content to any Contributor or to identify Contributors as authors or co-authors of any Platform content.
